[ Masterweb Reports: Jojo Kwebena ] - The International ‘Society For The Recognition Of Famous People’ has included five Nigerians in its global list of famous people, comprising influential individuals from all spheres of life. The extensive array of biographies is chronicled on the website and includes nearly 6000 prominent individuals who have made indelible marks in their various fields. According to the website, “Human civilization has seen numerous people who have changed the course of history and influenced their sphere of living by their charisma, intelligence and talent. Be it geographical expansion, art and entertainment, science and technology, literature, politics, statesmanship or games and sports, these individuals have created history by their work.” The five Nigerians named in the extensive list are the country’s first President Nnamdi Azikiwe, acclaimed novelist Chinua Achebe, Nobel literary laureate Wole Soyinka, controversial Pastor T.B. Joshua and current President Goodluck Jonathan. The record, which includes both the living and dead, contains business people, scientists, writers, musicians, sportspersons, painters, physicians, singers, dancers, film and theatre personalities, activists, intellectuals, academics, fashion icons, media personalities, leaders, lawyers, engineers and inventors. The country with the highest number of individuals is the United States which has 1487 people. “The biographies of these people feature the achievements and works that have influenced the course of history,” the website concludes.
