BreakingNews 23/1/16 - Governor Okezie Ikpeazu still on duty, flagged off more roads

[ Masterweb Reports: Nnaji Asiegbu reorts ] - The Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has flagged off the construction of four additional roads in Aba, the commercial nerve centre of the state bringing the total number of roads currently being undertaken by his administration in Aba in the last seven months to 29.
 
 
The roads flagged off by the Governor include the Ohazu, Ozuomba and Ibere roads linking the Port Harcourt road as well as the Umuola-Umuokahia road in Obingwa LGA.
 

 
Speaking while flagging off the four roads, Governor Ikpeazu said that he was concerned about the plight of the residents of the area and described the roads as strategic in the economic development of Aba.”It is unfortunate that these people still wade through flood even in dry season”, he lamented.
 

 
According to him, the State government was constrained to commence the rehabilitation of the Obohia road due to some encumbrances on it following the award of the of the contract  for the road by NDDC to a contractor and stated government’s readiness to reconstruct the road if the contractor was not willing to do it.

 
 
To underscore his administration’s seriousness in delivering the Ozuomba and Ohazu Roads on record time, he said that two contractors have been deployed on the roads and called on those with attachments that may stall the progress of work on the roads to remove them without delay.
 
 
According to him, cement pavement technology will be adopted in the construction of the roads while the roads will come with drainage and street lights to extend business hours and promised to give the people of the area the best.
 
 
He decried the neglect of the Umuola –Umuokohia road by successive governments and assured them that his government will carry them along.
 
 
Earlier in his speech, the commissioner for Works, Hon Eziuche Ubani disclosed that barely one week after the Governor visited the road, he decided to flag off the construction to give the people a sense of belonging and urged the people to assist the government to do more by paying their taxes.
 
 
In their separate speeches residents of the affected roads including Eze V.U Asonye the transition committee chairman of Aba South, Okezie Erondu, Eze Nzenwata Mbakwe and bishop Edohasim expressed gratitude to the Governor for coming to their aid after many years of neglect and pledged their support to his administration.
