[ Masterweb Reports: Press Release For Immediate Release ] - The 16th day of July 2016 would forever remain a very memorable and historic day for Enugu State Association Europe (ESAE), which successfully held its first Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Inaugural Convention at the Senator Parque Central Hotels in the beautiful City of Valencia, Spain. Interestingly, the Igbo Diasporas in Valencia came out en masse with various Igbo cultural dances and masquerades from different South-Eastern States of Nigeria to welcome their brothers and sisters, the Europe delegates of Enugu State extraction, led by the ESAE founding President Chief (Dr.) Peter Ndubuisi Ozonyia.

In his welcome speech, Chief Ozonyia informed delegates and all invited guests that “ESAE is a conglomeration of indigenous associations, town unions and professional bodies known as chapters, formed by Enugu State indigenes across the 51 countries of Europe”. Chief Ozonyia thanked sincerely the people of Valencia for their unflinching hospitality to ESAE delegates and commended the organisers of the event for beating all the odds to stage a highly flamboyant occasion. He gave God Almighty all the glory for graciously making the occasion more that successful. On behalf of ESAE, the President also thanked the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Peter Okorie and his wife. Also recognised specifically for their immense contributions to the successful vibrant hosting of ESAE inaugural event was Lolo (Mrs.) Jennifer Okechi (ESAE Financial Secretary and President of Enugu Women Association Spain) and Chief Emmanuel Ani (ESAE Assistant General Secretary and the General Secretary of Ohaneze in Spain).

According to the Chairman of the ‘organising committee’ (i.e. ESAE Inauguration Committee), in the person of Chief Charles Okechi who is also the ESAE Vice President, “it is normal for the Igbos in Valencia to unite in showing solidarity as good ambassadors of Nigeria and as the true custodians of their Igbo culture in Spain/Europe”. The Vice President also thanked his fellow Igbo Valencians for coming out en mass to support ESAE. In the words of the ESAE PRO and image-maker, Lolo (Mrs) Mary-Ann Chukwuenyem, “such rich and flamboyant display of Igbo cultures is particularly very typical of Enugu State indigenes all over the world; and that Enugu indigenes in Valencia have done ESAE and Enugu people in Europe very proud”.
The newly elected Provost of ESAE, Chief Stanley Onyia who is also the current President of all the Igbos in Mallorca-Spain, added that, “ESAE 2016 inaugural convention was a very huge historic moment never witnessed in Europe since over 50 years that Igbos/Enugu State indigenes in particular have come to live in this part of the world”. Chief Magnus Nwafor (ESAE Social Secretary) also informed journalists that, “it was during ESAE’s 2016 AGM that the re-appraisal of ESAE strategic mission statement and elections of new ESAE executives were carefully conducted and approved”. Another staunch executive of ESAE who is also the current Chairman of all the Igbos in Sweden, Chief Joe Obinna also affirmed that the successful hosting of “Valencia 2016” marked another crucially important milestone in the history of ESAE, as it was our first ever Inaugural Convention and AGM. Consequently, the newly inaugurated ESAE EXCO members congratulated the ESAE UK chapter for winning the bid to host 2017 ESAE AGM/National Convention.

The group also lauded the present Enugu State Government for their resolute commitment to partner and collaborate with ESAE in championing ‘Enugu Diaspora Village’ housing project. In his keynote speech, the Chairman of ESAE Investment Committee, Sir Anterus Chikaobi Ezeh told delegates that Enugu Diaspora Village project would be launched sometime in September in the City of London. Sir A.C. Ezeh also revealed that the EDV project aims to replicate European standard Real Estate development in the historic Coal City of Enugu state, which will boost of 24hours renewable electricity and all the necessary modern amenities like schools, parks and recreation centres, hospital, shopping malls  as well as 5* Marriot/Hilton hotels and intra-city Tram networks. He also highlighted that such a project will not only create substantial employments but will also bring further aesthetic civilisation and development in Enugu State of Nigeria. According to another Enugu State patriot, Chief Gideon of Castellion-Spain, ESAE’s plan is to build affordable ultramodern housing units for the benefits of all the Enugu State indigenes in the Diaspora all over the world.

The newly elected ESAE executives also affirmed their resolve to continue to contribute as much as they can for the ‘development’ and ‘common good’ of Enugu State, and to collaborate effectively with the Enugu State Government led by the proactive Governor of Enugu Sate, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. According to the new ESAE Gen. Secretary, Chief (Mrs.) Angela Chigbo, ESAE is primarily focusing on the promotion and protection of the interests of Enugu state Indigenes at home and abroad. And that it is in this spirit that ESAE is supporting good governance, capacity building and sustainable development in Enugu State, Nigeria and Africa generally.

The group is very delighted on the determination of present administration to transform Enugu State while acknowledging the contributions of the past administrations of Enugu State. It also commended the contributions of the National Assembly members from Enugu State led by the Deputy President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Chief Ike Ekweremadu (PhD, CFR) – the Ike Oha 1 of Igboland. The group affirmed their hundred percent confident in the Deputy Senate President and thus resolved to challenge critically any attempt to besmirch his years of service to our fatherland Nigeria through unfounded allegations and ‘kangaroo’ court cases. The group were delighted at the performance of Enugu State House of Assembly led by Rt. Hon. Edward Ubosi in their legislative duties for the common good. The message was contained in a communiqué issued by ESAE after their first AGM and Inaugural Convention in Valencia-Spain, signed by their President Chief (Dr.) Peter Ndubuisi Ozonyia; ESAE General Secretary Chief (Mrs.) Angela Chigbo and ESAE Public Relation Officer Lolo (Mrs.) Mary-Ann Chukwuenyem.
