BreakingNews 3/9/16 - U.S. Based Nigerian Professor Dies in Nigeria

[ Masterweb Reports ] - Dr. Godwin Ariguzo, a professor at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth passed away while on a visit to his homeland Nigeria. Interim Chancellor Peyton R. Helm said the school learnt of Ariguzo’s death from a family member last Tuesday. In a press statement he said:

 

"With great sadness, I must report to you that Dr. Godwin Ariguzo, a beloved and respected member of the Charlton College of Business faculty, has passed away while in Nigeria,” Helm said in a statement.

 

"Those who knew Godwin well describe him as a passionate teacher and mentor, who loved this university and his students.”

 

Ariguzo had recently achieved a professional milestone when he was awarded tenure and a promotion to associate professor this summer, according to Helm.

 

The school did not list his age or provide details about Ariguzo's death, but Helm said the university would release information about funeral arrangements when it is available. UMass Dartmouth’s website notes that Ariguzo traveled word-wide, and he worked as a consultant to myriad companies, including Cozyrest Guest House in Nigeria.

 

Ariguzo taught marketing and served as a visiting professor at Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences in Wolfsburg, Germany, along with IAE de Grenoble Université Pierre Mendes in Grenoble, France, according to profile information from the university.

 

He was a content consultant to WGBH Educational Television Foundation and a recipient of a $250,000 grant from Microsoft to develop and implement computer training programs in SouthCoast.

During his career, Ariguzo generated more than $4.5 million in private and public grants to support his work. His research interests were in green marketing, direct and mobile marketing, international business, seafood marketing, marketing intelligence, and academic administration. His writings were published in the Information and Management Journal, the International Journal of Logistics Systems and Management, International Journal of Business Innovation and Research, and in a variety of conference proceedings.

 

Ariguzo was also recipient of the 2005 University of Massachusetts Dartmouth University-wide Leo M. Sullivan Teacher of the Year Award (one awarded each year) and the Charlton College of Business Higginson Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2005 and 2009.

 

As the co-adviser to the International Business Association (IBA), he worked with his students to conduct in-country research projects in Argentina, the Azores, Brazil, Cape Verde, China, France, Costa Rica, Germany, Italy, Peru, and Portugal. He traveled to 20 countries in four different continents.

 

Ariguzo also provided consulting services for various companies in the United States and abroad including the Catholic Diocese of Fall River/Bishop Connolly High School, WGBH Educational Television Foundation, Ameramesh Technologies, Wellness Inc., Charlton Memorial Hospital, and Cozyrest Guest House in Nigeria.
