BreakingNews 4/9/16 - Sanctification: What is Sanctification?

[ Masterweb Reports: Evangelist Chi Benedicta Okonkwo reports ] - To be sanctified means to be set apart for God and therefore, to be set apart from the devil. Let us use an illustration. When you rent a night club for use as a Church, before you begin services there, you have to sanctify the place, in the name of Jesus Christ. This means that for the period you are going to be in that hall, it belongs to Jesus Christ. It is separated unto God and during this time, nobody can smoke or drink in the place.

How to Remain Sanctified?

How do we remain sanctified?

The answer is in verse 27 of Luke 10.

We are to do three simple things.

  1. The first thing to do is to love your Husband as much as He loves you. Of course, your husband is Jesus Christ. He loves with all His heart, all His soul, strength and mind. All that He is asking from you is that you should return the love Jesus Christ said in John 15:13,

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

We must love Jesus so much that we should be ready to die for Him.

Another way that you can show Jesus that you are ready to die for Him and live according to His will is recorded in Romans 12:1,

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy.

Acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”

When you become a living sacrifice to your Husband, you are telling the Lord that He can do whatever He likes with you. This is another way of saying that you are ready to lay down your life for Him.

( b) The second thing you are to do so as to remain sanctified is to love yourself, not because of yourself, but because you belong to your Husband, because, you are His favourite and you are set apart for him.

We have to take care of our bodies because they do not belong to us. They are the temples of the Holy Ghost and they belong to Jesus Christ ( 1 Corinthians 6:15-20).

In taking care of your body for your Husband’s sake, you must rest.

Exodus 20:8-10 say we must rest at least one day in the week. Even God Himself did all His works in six days and rested on the seventh day.

The next thing that you must take care of is your soul. There are many things that we meditate upon that will irritate our Husband.

As a favourite of God, what must you meditate upon?

The answer is in Philippians 4:8, “ Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever

things are of good report, if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

These are the things we have to meditate upon. This is why you have to deal with immoral thoughts because they are not pure. Thinking about those that have offended you is not of good report.

You have to meditate on things; which are true, honest, just, pure, virtuous and of good report.

You must also take care of your spirit because it belongs to the Almighty God. The Bible warns in 1 Timothy 4:1-4.

Watch out for demons. Demons come in various forms. It can be through preachers who teach doctrines of the devil that have nothing to do with consecration, dedication, prayer and intense Bible study. Beware of these type of preachers.

We must also watch our eyes. I wonder whether we can watch some of the programmes we watch on television, if Jesus is by our sides. Can we read some of the books we read with Jesus around?

The Bible say: What the eye does not see, the heart does not desire. You should also watch your tongue because your tongue does not belong to you.

If you do not make mistake with your tongue, as far as God is concerned, you are on your way to perfection. Many of us still talk too much.

Can we say some of the things that we say if Jesus is by our sides?

The third thing to do to be sanctified is to love your neighbour as passionately as God loves them. 1 John 3:16 says: “ Here by perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.”

Jesus died for the whole world. You cannot remain a Christian, not to talk of a sanctified one, if you are not a zealous soul winner. Jesus Himself said that if you are a branch that does not bear fruits, His father will tear you away ( John 15:2).

You are to be concerned of your neighbour as you are of yourself. You must do everything possible, including laying down your life, in order that your neighbour hears the Gospel.
