BreakingNews 7/9/16 - Igbo women protest military presence

[ Masterweb Reports: Johnkennedy Uzoma reports ] - Women in the oil-rich communities of Awara in Ohaji/Egbema local government area of Imo State yesterday embarked on a protest against the presence of soldiers deployed to the area. The women in their numbers led by Mrs. Nwaegunma Okwegbunwa and Mrs. Ejegbum Alibert accused soldiers of extrajudicial killings.
Troops had been deployed to the community last Saturday to quell cult activities and militants that have been bombing oil installations in the area.

An indigene of the community, Mr.Emeka Ogbuji confirmed the situation to Daily Trust yesterday saying, “soldiers told the women to ask their sons to stop killings and drop their arms for peace to return.”

When contacted the Army Public Relation Officer of the 34 Field Artillery Brigade Obinze, Haruna Timothy Tagwaui denied knowledge of presence of soldiers in the community.
