BreakingNews 4/11/16: Jonathan ordered diversion of N264bn TETFund -Senate

[ Masterweb Reports: Ismail Mudashir reports ] - The Senate yesterday said it has commenced the process of recovering N263.9billion diverted from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) on the order of former president Goodluck Jonathan. The resolution was sequel to adoption of a report of the Senate committee on Tertiary Education and TETFund, chaired by Senator Jibrin Barau (APC, Kano North) on the gross mismanagement of the education tax fund.

Barau said the committee discovered that N263.9billion was diverted from the TETFund with approval of the former president in 2013.

He said it was found that the money was not transferred to TETFund project account in 2014, rather it was diverted to finance various expenditures, including revitalization of universities’ infrastructure and payment of allowances of Academic Staff of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) on the approval of Jonathan.

He said the diversion was made possible by the Act of TETFund which made the president the sole approving authority.
