BreakingNews 7/11/16: Why Buhari`s loan request failed in Senate -Senator Mustapha

[ Masterweb Reports: Ismail Mudashir reports ] - Lack of regular interface and communication between the executive and legislative arms of government was reason behind failure of President Muhammadu Buhari’s $30billion loan request at the Senate, Senator Bukar Mustapha (APC, Katsina North) has said.
Speaking in an interview with our correspondent, the vice chairman senate committee on power urged President Buhari to adopt former President Shehu Shagari style in relating with the National Assembly.
Buhari’s loan request was rejected on Tuesday following the non- inclusion of the details of the loan. His Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) was also rejected on Thursday over same reason.
“I can remember during Shagari administration, the leadership of the Executive and the National Assembly always meet to iron out issues,” he said.
Bukar said, “You can’t bring the issue of $30 billion loan without first of all discussing it internally with the leadership of the National Assembly and whoever that needs to be discussed with.
“It is not an issue of just transmitting a letter, I think it is beyond that. This is one of the sensitivities that we need to look at to ensure that whenever, we are bringing letters to the National Assembly, there are no mistakes. You can see letters are being transmitted with mistakes.”
Bukar who represents Buhari’s indigenous senatorial district said there was need for the leadership of the two arms to sit together and work out how the relationship can be solidified.
“I think there is a problem with the liaison between the executive and the National Assembly. All these rest on the shoulders of whoever is in charge of making sure we are provided with the correct information,” he said.
Bukar stressed that the president had good intentions for the country adding that “last year we had issues with the budget which dragged for long and it was unnecessary.  I hope it won’t happen again this year with these kinds of mistakes that are happening. There are lots of good intentions on the part of the president but those who are working with him must improve on their capabilities.”
