BreakingNews 4/12/16: Nigeria defeat Cameroun to lift 2016 AWCON title

[ Masterweb Reports: Mansur Abubakar reports ] - Nigeria’s Super Falcons yesterday retained the African Women Championship after defeating host Cameroun 1-0 in Yaounde. Florence Omagbemi’s side goal came in the 84th minute via veteran striker Desire Oparanozie whose lone goal also saw off South Africa in the semifinal last Thursday.

Yesterday’s triumph is Nigeria’s eighth African championship title in ten editions since the tournament was first held in 1998.

Speaking to Fever Pitch immediately after yesterday’s game defender Onome Ebi gave God the glory saying it’s satisfying to finally see all the hard work the team had put in over the past few weeks finally pay off.

“So proud of what we have achieved. This tournament continues to be more challenging with every edition and im glad we were able to prove once again that we are the best on the continent.” The FK Minsk player said.

Coach Omagbemi also made a history of her own after becoming the first individual to win the AWCON as a player and a coach.
