BreakingNews 15/11/16 - Nigerian court remands 54-year-old man for allegedly raping two minors

[ Masterweb Reports ] - A Lokoja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded a 54-year-old commercial tricyclist, Segun Adisa in prison custody, for allegedly raping two minors in a toilet. The Chief Magistrate, Levi Animoku ordered the remand of the accused because of the gravity of the crime.


“I am not convinced to accede to the application of the defence counsel to admit him to bail. Consequently, the accused shall be remanded at Federal Prisons, Koton-Karfe”, he ordered.


Animoku also transferred the case to the Family Court II, Lokoja and adjourned the matter till Nov.22 for mention at the Family Court.


 The prosecutor, Sgt. Tuesday Ganagana, said the case was reported on Oct. 26, at ‘A’ Division Police Station, Lokoja, by one Hassana Mohammed, mother of one the girls allegedly raped.


Ganagana told the court that Hassana of Opposite Crowther Memorial College, Lokoja, reported that the alleged rape was committed on Oct. 22 at about 3p.m.


The prosecutor said that while the girl aged 13, was hawking sachet water and Zobo drink near Lokoja Township Stadium, Adisa called her under false pretence that he wanted to buy the Zobo.


The police further alleged that the accused violently dragged her into a toilet and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her without her consent.


Ganagana said that the accused was also alleged to have deceitfully called another minor who was selling kolanuts at the stadium.


Under the pretext of buying the kolanut, the accused was alleged to have dragged the girl to the toilet and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.


Counsel to the accused, Salihu Abdulmalik applied for the bail of defendant, but Ganagana opposed the application.


He said that Section 283 of the Penal Code stipulates life imprisonment for the offence upon conviction, adding that the case was still under investigation.
