BreakingNews 12/1/17 - Dalung accuses Nigeria of neglecting her sports heroes

[ Masterweb Reports: Joshua Odeyemi reports ] - The Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung has accused past administrations of neglecting the country's sports heroes. Dalung who spoke in Abuja on Thursday argued that sports legends in the country must be given the deserved recognition by the government as they could help inspire the younger generations.

"We are in a country that our reward system has collapsed," he lamented. "This is a country where you served with your strength and by tomorrow you are a stranger to the same system you served."

While insisting that any society operating on that paradigm will fail, Dalung argued that "We must recognise those who have given their best yesterday for us to have our today."

The minister who noted that they have inspired so many Nigerians, challenged them to always come up with programmes that will directly affect young Nigerians.

"On the eve of my departure from Brazil after the Olympics, some Brazilians came to me and said they had a prayer request and I asked what the prayer was, they said they were praying to God that no Nigerian woman should ever give birth to the likes of Kanu Nwankwo and Daniel Amokachi again.

"I asked them why and they said the two of them disgraced Brazil in the past and Brazil will never forget it

"If these guys go to Brazil today, the crowd that will pull out will be amazing but we don't respected here."
