BreakingNews 11/1/17 - Guard in Lagos court for `allowing` robbers into employer`s home

[ Masterweb Reports: Eugene Agha reports ] - A 40-year-old security guard, Ali Mohammed, was yesterday brought before an Igbosere Chief Magistrate court, Lagos for allowing armed robbers into the house of his employer. Armed robbers had allegedly stormed Plot 63, Ben Okagbua Mba St., Lekki Phase 1, Lagos Island  on Christmas eve and carted away property worth over N15 million.

 

The accused was arrested after his employer reported the case to the police, accusing the guard of failing in his duty as security man to prevent the robbers fom entering the compound.

 

Mohammed, whose address was not given, is thus being tried for negligence.

 

At the proceedings, the Prosecutor Ibrahim Haruna told the court that as a security guard the guard failed in his duties to prevent thieves from gaining entry to the building, and that the offence contravened Section 408 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The guard pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N5 million with two sureties in like sum.

 

The Magistrate, Mr B. A. Sonuga, adjourned the case to February 8, 2017 for mention.
