BreakingNews 22/2/17 - Nigeria to construct Cameroon-Nigeria border bridge with $40m

[ Masterweb Reports: Isiaka Wakili reports ] - The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved the contract for the construction of the Cameroon-Nigeria border link bridge at Ikot Efiem. The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, disclosed this to State House correspondents after the FEC meeting chaired by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo.

 

 Fashola stated that $38 million would be spent on the construction of the bridge and another $1.9 million for the consultancy.

 

 The minister explained that "this was done under African Development Bank procurement guidelines.

 

 "We presented a memo to construct the Cameroon-Nigeria border link bridge at Ikot Efiom, under the African Development Bank support for improving relationship between Cameroon and Nigeria post the International Court of Justice (ICJ) judgement over Bakassi.

 

 "And council approved that bridge. It is part of the link road between the Enugu-Abakiliki Highway which is already completed and part of larger Lagos-Mumbasa Highway," he said.
