BreakingNews 29/1/17: APC targets one million members in Anambra

[ Masterweb Reports: Emma Elekwa reports ] - The All Progressives Congress (APC), Anambra State chapter, yesterday commenced registration of members of the party in the state with a target of over one million people. The exercise, coordinated by a five-man committee, led by former deputy governor of Abia State, Dr. Chris Akomas, kicked off with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige.

Addressing the crowd, Dr. Chris Akomas, said the party was prepared for the November governorship election in the state, adding that the more people they have, the more their chances of winning the election.

He explained that the registration was not aimed at dissolving the current state executive of the party in the state as being speculated, calling on the people to disregard any form of propaganda.

Akomas said any disruption by any group or persons would attract heavy sanctions from the party, adding that the structure and constitution of the APC must be respected and followed.

He warned that the party would not tolerate any form of violence during the exercise, charging those aspiring for various political positions in the state to work hard.

According to Akomas, some members of the ruling APGA and PDP have started defecting to the APC.

Also speaking, the former governor of Anambra State and leader of the party in the state, Senator Chris Ngige, commended the APC stakeholders in the state for what he called the massive turnout, adding that the development is a sign that they were on the right track.

Also at the meeting were Chief George Moughalu, Dr. Obinna Uzor, Sir Barth Nwibe, Tony Nwoye, former governorship candidate of APGA, Dr. Chike Obidigbo, former commissioners, former council chairmen in the state, among others.
