MasterwebNews 7/3/17 - Nigeria: Northern govs urged to create economic development plan

[ Masterweb Reports: Isiaka Wakili reports ] - The Northern States Governors Forum has been urged to create a five-year Arewa Economic Development Plan 2017-2022. Head ofthe Arewa Center for Regional Development (ACRD) Dr Baba Adamu who made the call in a statement on Tuesday said such a plan should recognize the current realities and build on existing strengths of every state in the region.

He said: "As such, the north can better adapt to innovative strategies and new technologies, while also fostering collaboration and partnership at all levels. Today, communities within states are grappling with long-term unemployment, environmental challenges, widening economic disparity, growing social unrest and dwindling of government resources.

"That is why ACRD believes in building trusting relationships among key players, forging collaboration and partnership that spur the movement of ideas into action in an agile manner and creating a single standard and a commonly recognized set of competence that would define the promise of economic development  for the entire Arewa region through creation of wealth and by supporting Arewa small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and attraction of Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs)."
