BreakingNews 11/7/17 - Nigeria to be turnaround in 18 months if... -Osinbajo

[ Masterweb Reports: Isiaka Wakili reports ] - Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has expressed optimism that Nigeria will turn around in the next 12 to 18 months, if the government with the support of all Nigerians remain focussed.

Osinbajo disclosed this at the Old Banquet Hall of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja today during the Quarterly Presidential Business Forum.

He said the nation was fortunate to have a straightforward leader like President Muhammadu Buhari committed to "ensuring government expenditure is spent the way it should be spent, and that people don't do what they like."

He said: "To that extent, I think we've the right environment at least in terms of government discipline and all of that to be able to deliver on the premises we've made. And all I will just want to say to the private sector is, be sure that we have enough willing and able partners. There is no way we can ever be perfect. I mean government is a behemoth where there are so many problems and issues."

The acting president, however, expressed confidence that if the government was focused, the country would witness a turnaround within the next 18 months.

"Day after day, night after night, we're working on these things. Practically every night, we work on these issues. I believe very strongly that Nigeria will turn around. I've no doubt in my mind that if we're focussed even in the next 12 to 18 months, we'll certainly see a turnaround," he said.

Osinbajo appealed to the private sector to collaborate with the government in its efforts towards ensuring "that this happens to the Nigerian economy."

Osinbajo said the government has identified certain critical things that must be done to move the country forward.

He listed them as stabilizing the macro-economic environment, ensuring energy sufficiency, improving transportation infrastructure as well as achieving agriculture and food security.

"On each and every one of these items, certainly, progress is being made. And of course, fighting corruption, controlling government expenditure, controlling leakages and all of that. On every one of these items, progress is being made."
