BreakingNews 19/9/13 - US-based Nigerian boxer targets UBF international heavyweight title

[ Masterweb Reports ] – Nigerian-born United States (U.S.) based boxer, Enobong Umohette, has begun intensive training towards winning the UBF International Heavyweight Boxing title fight scheduled for November 2 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, U.S.

Umohette is billed to face a former Two Division National Boxing Association (NBA) Intercontinental Champion, Dante Craig, for the vacant UBF title in a 10-round main event of the show, tagged ‘Casino Battle Royale.’

The fight will hold at the Potawatomi Bingo Casino located at 1721 West Canal Street Milwaukee WI 53233 in Wisconsin.

Umohette, who hails from Akwa Ibom State, is described in some quarters as a charismatic boxer.

Known in the U.S. as ‘The Nigerian Gentleman,’ Umohette is said to be a role model for youths in Milwaukee Wisconsin, U.S.

After a fulfilling amateur career in Nigeria, where he was the 2005 National Amateur Champion in the Super Heavyweight category, he rounded up his amateur career in 2008 as the U.S. Boxing Wisconsin Super Heavyweight Champion in the Novice Division in 2007.

He turned professional in 2009 and in 2010 clinched the Wisconsin State Heavyweight Boxing title after a sensational seven round battle with the former Champion, Lyle McDowell.

The Guardian gathered that the Wisconsin Heavyweight boxing champion is not only self managed and promoted, he will double on November 2 as a contender in the ring as well as the event promoter.

It is also said that the event not only positions Umohette for an opportunity to re-awaken professional boxing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but furthermore provides an enabling platform for him to establish himself as a boxing promoter, who will focus on investing in boxers from his native country, Nigeria and the African continent.

In a telephone chat with The Guardian yesterday, Umohette acknowledged the risk and difficulty in wearing two hats at the same time, saying he was conscious of Craig’s impressive record of 15 knockout victories in 20 wins, saying: “I will leave nothing to chance and count on the teeming support from Nigerians, Africans and boxing fans from all over the world, as I prepare for the fight.”
