NewsReel 20/3/2014 - Senator Ike Nwachukwu Should Not Lead Igbos to National Conference

[ Masterweb Reports: Dr. Ukonu I Ukonu reports ] - I am constrained to add my voice over the strong opposition of the leadership of Ike Nwachukwu of the Igbos to the forthcoming national conference for some obvious tribal and national reasons. I am very happy that this Ike Nwachukwu factor vis-a-viz leadership of the Igbos is brought to the limelight now than later. I was saying how soon do Igbo people forget but behold this article has dug up Ike Nwachukwu’s past history confirming to me that the Elephant indeed (symbolic of the Igbos) does not forget. My view of Ike Nwachukwu’s past does not look good in every way. I do not have any personal animosities on Senator Ike Nwachukwu rather his failure to better the lots of the Igbos when he had the ample opportunity or to stand up and be counted for truth or justice when it mattered but he chose to look the other way quite unlike what the likes of Ebitu Ukiwe, Ndubusi Kanu, Emeka Ojukwu, Alex Madiebo to mention these few would have done if in his position.
I have read through why other writers discredited Ike Nwachukwu from the leading the Igbos to the National Conference and I am lending my voice as an Igbo to say well and truly Ike Nwachukwu does not deserve to lead the Igbos in any form or shape. First, his abysmal role when in the Nigerian army was regrettable. He never stood for justice instead his view has always been ‘let the Tiger eat the man’ and more of his ‘master’s voice’. He has never been his own man when compared with Igbo sons like Ebitu Ukiwe, Ndubusi Kanu and Alex Madiebo. His regrettable role when he was appointed by Ibrahim Babangida to try the late General Maman Vatsa on alleged plotting to overthrow Babangida’s government is still resonating. Ike Nwachukwu along with General Aziza (rtd) knew quite well that Maman Vatsa was innocent and he was accused on trumped up charges based on conflict of personality Babangida had with his childhood friend Maman Vatsa. The only thing Ike Nwachukwu said was his hands were tied. Justice did not matter than serving the interest of his master to eliminate Mama Vatsa.
My second regret of Ike Nwachukwu abysmal failure whilst in a privileged position was his time as military administrator in then Imo State. There was then the rampant armed robbery in the state and what should be done to correct this matter. The only idea Ike Nwachukwu as the State Administrator could initiate was that any armed robber caught in Imo State should face firing squad in the armed robber’s home town and compound. His idea was to hold the robber’s parents, siblings, relations and village responsible for the armed robber’s offence. The consequence of such error of judgment by Ike Nwachukw was so counter-productive that so many innocent old parents of the armed robbers died of heart attack and the village, siblings, and family members suffered untold public opprobrium. Ike Nwachukwu never thought for a moment that you can bring up a child as much as in a disciplined way as you can only for him to chart his own way as he grows up beyond what parents can do. I personally would not want the likes of Ike Nwachukwu to lead the Igbos to the national conference now and in the future.
