Book Your Flight For Igbo Retreat in U.S. Igbo Village

  [ Masterweb Reports ] – Masterweb News Desk contacted The Council of Igbo States in Americas (CISA) over the weekend, exactly three months to their planned Igbo Retreat at Igbo Farm Village in Virginia, U.S. for firsthand knowledge of the highlights of the event progamme and purpose of the retreat. Our news desk gathered “Guest Registration” is scheduled Friday, March 22, 2013 from 6.00 – 9.00 pm and as guest registration goes on, “Reception” starts at 8.00 pm for two hours ending 10.00 pm. “Nzuko Ndigbo” , a special short gathering of Ndigbo time schedule is to be announced at the reception. The first day of the retreat (March 22, 2013) winds down for the general public at the end of the reception after which they can retire for the day at their various hotel/housing accommodation. The main events (to be announced by CISA in due course) of the retreat are scheduled Saturday, March 23, 2013 from 9.00 am to 2.00 am(Sunday). A party galore winds the village through the night to the early hours of Sunday with rhythm and echoes of Igbo folklore, highlife, African music and hip hop (for the younger generation).


In a nutshell, people should plan their arrival to enable them participate in the registration exercise from 6.00 – 9.00 pm on Friday, March 22, 2013. It is advisable for people to book their flights as soon as possible for lower rates. Attendees can make their own private hotel reservations or wait for the announcement of CISA special group discount rate. The venue of the event is Frontier Museum, Igbo Farm Village, 1290 Richmond Road, Staunton, VA 24401, USA. CISA will announce in due course names of speakers at the event. Below are the objectives of the Igbo Retreat according to CISA.


1. Understand and make Service (Igbo Mkpa) the Igbo Purpose (Isi Uma Igbo).


2. Make honest achievement and professional commitment to Alaigbo our mandate.


3. Create a strong sense diasporic Igbo Peoplehood by expanding our sense of home and territory to include all the Igbo speaking communities Nigeria.


4. Discover new Igbolands outside Nigeria where we will prosper by rendering service and in turn use our prosperity to prosper Alaigbo; keeping in mind that Uwa ka Alaigbo wu Ama Igbo. Ihe Igbo chu aga wu ama igbo Igbo mkpa.


5. Form organizations that will cater to the anticipated Igbo massive immigration to newly discovered Igbolands. This should be one of the major undertakings of Igbo communities in the Diaspora.


6. Make healthy relationship and peaceful co-existence our virtue.


7. Make Oluokwukwe Igbo Kwenu (Igbo Affirmations) and Iju Ogu Ututu (Igbo Morning Devotion) the mandates and guiding principles of Igbo religious and moral life.


8. Establish Igbo Immigration Centers that will provide contexts and programs for acculturating new Igbo immigrants and assisting them to gain citizenship. This must be a part of the Igbo strategy of survival and success in the United States and other places in the greater Igbo Diaspora. Programs in Igbo Cultural Heritage should also take place in these centers.


9. Make heritage education the basis of advanced knowledge in such a way that makes balancing cultural reasoning with critical thinking will become our lifelong mandate. Diaspora Igbo should make strategic uses of the Igbo Village in Staunton, VA; the Igbo Studies Center at Howard University in Washington; the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, and Abia State University to train a new generation of Igbo leaders versed in Igbo cultural traditions as well as formal education. The summer cultural immersion classes and weekend institutes that are already taking place at the Igbo Farm Village must continue to provide the kind of heritage education that will take Igbo children from their families to their greater Igbo communities, camps, colleges, primordial homeland, jobs, marriage, home acquisition (Alabi Estates), and professional commitments to Alaigbo as Odenigbos in the Igbo Diaspora.


10. Establish an Igbo Bond Organization (IBO [Stock Market]) that funds the Igbo longtime Igbo agendas in community, health, religion, economy, politics, education, and recreation.
