NewsReel 11/7/14 - Peter Obi reacts to Aturu's death

[ Masterweb Reports ] - Former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi has described the death of the Human Rights Activists and Lawyer, Barr. Bamidele Aturu as a colossal loss not just to the human rights community and the Legal Profession, but to the country at large. Obi said it was one of the deaths that Nigerians were united in wishing it was not true.

Describing Aturu as a friend,  Obi  said he was consistent in his support for his legal battles to regain his mandate, to come back from his illegal impeachment and for the interpretation of his tenure. "At each point during those dark times, Aturu was one person who kept calling me intermittently to encourage me not to relent in my search for justice through the courts", he said.

Consoling  members of the bar for the loss of their illustrious member, Obi advised them to look up to people like Aturu as role models. "Aturu believed in law as an instrument of justice. I urge lawyers, especially the younger ones to emulate Aturu in his belief that law should serve the interest of justice and not the contrary", Obi
submitted.

Concluding, he prayed to the Almighty to strengthen all those affected
by his demise.
