NewsReel 17/9/14 - Gov Orji Charges National Boundary Commission to Help Maintain Peaceful Coexistence amongst Nigerians

[ Masterweb Reports ] -The National Boundary Commission has been charged to help maintain peaceful coexistence amongst neighbouring states in the country.

Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji, gave the charge when he received the Director General of the National Boundary Commission, Dr. MB Ahmad and his team at the Government house, Umuahia, during their advocacy visit.

He said the commission is essential as it plays key role in bringing peace in the polity, noting that land remains a sensitive issue.

He pledged that Abia will partner and give the commission every assistance as well as facilitate it in field work.

The Governor disclosed that he has directed the chairman of the Civil Service Commission to employ people in specialized areas like surveying to check the dearth of personnel in that sector.
Governor Orji who said that Abia State government is trying to resolve some of the boundary problems it’s having with her neighbours, pointed out that the Mamman Nasir Commission was not fair on the state, a situation he said that needed to be corrected.

Earlier, the DG National Boundary Commission, Dr M.B Ahmad solicited Governor Orji's support and intervention towards facilitating boundary determination and dispute resolution activities in Abia State and South East and the nation.

The DG further requested the Governor to support the state boundary committee to participate actively in all the commission's joint activities to make for quick definition and demarcation of the seven interstate boundaries of Abia State.

He said that it is worrisome that no single interstate boundary in the South East zone has been conclusively demarcated to date because the state boundary committees in the zone complain of inadequate funding and logistics support.
