BreakingNews 26/2/17: Abducted German archeologists regain freedom

[ Masterweb Reports: Ronald Mutum reports ] - Two German archeologists kidnapped at an excavation site in Kaduna state, have regained their freedom, barely 48 hours after the Police commenced a rescue mission, Daily Trust gathered on Sunday. The archaeologists; Professor Peter Breunig and Johannes Behirnger were kidnapped on Wednesday 22nd February, 2017.
 
Daily Trust could not independently verify if any ransom was paid for their freedom at the time of publishing this report, however a source hinted that authorities have been mute on the matter because the kidnapping is still under investigation.
 
They were taken by gunmen while working in collaboration with the National Commission for Museum and Monuments on the relics of NOK Culture in Nigeria at an excavation site at Janjala area of Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State.
 
A reliable police source also told Daily Trust that the Germans have regained their freedom, and already reunited with their compatriots at the German Embassy in Abuja.
 



They were said to have been released unhurt by their abductors along the Kaduna-Abuja express way in the evening on Saturday 25th February, 2017.
 
On Thursday 23rd February, 2017, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris deployed the Special Police Forces; comprising the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), the Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU), the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) and the Police Mobile Force to rescue the Germans.
 
The Police Surveillance Helicopters and Special Investigation Team on kidnapping and terrorism cases under the Command of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Department of Operations were also deployed to Janjala Village to search and rescue the two Germans unhurt and arrest their kidnappers.
