[ Masterweb Reports: Comrade James Ezema reports ] - Barely five days after some haggard looking men suspected to be hired assassins invaded the home of the embattled former Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce Team on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina in Abuja, brandishing sophisticated weapons and harassing his family members, his family house in Kaduna was again attacked at about 900hours on Christmas eve.
An eyewitness, who simply identified himself as Mallam Salisu, told The Street Reporters that no fewer than nine (9) men arrived the house in a Hilux van and a Peugeot 406 car.
They were said to have driven straight to the family house where Maina's mother resides at Kawu area of Kaduna State.
While the Hilux van was stationed outside the house, the 406 was driven straight into the compound and one of the occupants asked of Abdulrasheed Maina and his mother’s whereabouts.
After ransacking the house, breaking the front and the back doors as well as the ceiling in the process, and not finding their targets, the men who were shouting "Where Maina?"; "Where is the mother?" before they tired up the security man and took him to an unknown destination.
He was later dumped at the bush at an outskirt of Kaduna where he was found by the villagers with a handcuff.
The matter has been reported to the Kawu police station by one of the family members, identified as Aliyu Maina and security men have since been detailed to the house alongside anti-bomb experts who combed the house and its vicinity.
Some of the suspected assassins were said to be dressed in military uniforms.
Five days ago, similar incident took place at the Abuja home of the former pension reform boss where two rooms in the house were ransacked, checking personal apparels in the house without any form of identification or a search warrant.
Maina's Security aides who were immediately informed, arrived the rented house but the suspected men led by a man said to be wearing a police uniform was accosted but they rebuffed every attempt to get them disclose their identity and mission around Maina's home.
Recall that Maina who has escaped many assassination attempts while serving as the Pension Reforms Taskforce Team boss, has consistently asked for security protection by the federal government against the pension cabals who have been after him following his numerous revelations on their clandestine activities.

[ Masterweb Reports: Press Release For Immediate Release ] - An amalgamation of civil society groups under the aegis of the Stand Up for Nigeria Coalition (SUN-CO) has called for the immediate resignation of the Group Managing Director of Nigerian NationalPetroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr. Maikanti Baru or be immediately shown the way out by President Muhammadu Buhari over the lingering fuel scarcity in the country.
The coalition noted that the continued scarcity of petroleum products in the country it's an economic terrorism which has caused Nigerians untold pains.
According to its Convener, Comrade Philip Agbese, at a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, the only thing Nigerians can understand "after series of meetings and Consultations is for fuel to immediately return to the filling stations and let us end this suffering and pains caused by the ineptitude of one man who is abusing his rights and privileges."
The coalition noted that it has watched worsening fuel crisis "with alarm and concern as Nigerians are coerced into wasting useful man-hours queuing for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise called petrol, while almost half of the country's population are denied the most important religious holiday having been prevented from spending Christmas holidays with families as they would have wished to."
He revealed that "Having taken time to understand the underlying causes of the scarcity and the resulting hardship visited on Nigerians, SUN-CO, came to the irreversible conclusion that the leadership of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, is complicit in the ugly situation the country has been plunged into.
"SUN-CO therefore call on Mr. Maikanti Baru to immediately resign as NNPC GMD since he has totally lost the confidence of Nigerians after proving that his loyalty lies with the industry canal and not for the well-being of the common man. This act of wickedness and callousness exhibited by the GMD and his cronies at the NNPC is a further proof that some highly placed persons are deliberately sabotaging the efforts of the President.
"We therefore urge President Muhammadu Buhari to save his government from further incurring the anger of Nigerians by ensuring that Baru is shown the way out if he lacks the decorum to fall on his own sword after the punishment he has imposed on the country at a time when all citizens should be joyous.
"SUN-CO further urges Mr President to immediately name a new leader for NNPC so that Nigerians would not have a repeat of the 2012 scenario when they had to rise up against the government over the handling of fuel issues", the coalition counselled.
Arguing that "this is not the best of times for anyone as a patriot to sit on the fence as the situation is at variance with the welfare policies of the Buhari administration, the Convener maintained that "Anyone that prophesses to love the country must first love the President and at all times be supportive of his well articulated programs and policies in line with this vision.
"It’s unfortunate that the enemies within have had a field day in the last few days and do not care about what happens to the image and personality of President Buhari whom Nigerians have trusted with the mandate to redeem them from sufferings and pains inflicted on us by past leaders of this country", SUN-CO stated.

[ Masterweb Reports: Isiaka Wakili reports ] - President Muhammadu Buhari has warned that a collapse of public confidence in the justice system will have disastrous consequences for the entire nation.
He called on the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to work with government to avert collapse of public confidence in the justice system of the country.
Buhari made the call at the Presidential Villa in Abuja yesterday while receiving the National Executive Committee of the NBA.
"Let me reiterate that the collapse of public confidence in the justice system will have disastrous effects on our democracy and will negatively affect the capacity of the legal profession to thrive and flourish in the country," he said.
Charging the NBA to ensure the highest form of discipline among its members, Buhari asked the body to ensure that all cases of indiscipline and corruption were tackled effectively.
He expressed worries over alleged attempts by some senior lawyers to corrupt judges and the judicial system.
President Buhari assured that his administration would continue to operate on a foundation of the rule of law.
"We are convinced that corruption and impunity flourish when due process mechanisms are disregarded. We, however, expect a corresponding duty on the part of all professional bodies such as the NBA to ensure the highest forms of discipline among their members," he said.
NBA president, Abubakar Balarabe Mahmud had drawn Buhari’s attention to the association’s concerns on prisons’ congestion, the need for compliance with judicial decisions and the modus operandi of some of the anti-corruption agencies.

[ Masterweb Reports: Press Release For Immediate Release ] - The Rivers State Chapter of All Progressives Congress APC in a statement issued on Thursday in Port Harcourt the Rivers State capital described the celebration of the birthday of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on 13
th December as celebration of treachery, deceit and fraud. According to the party, "it is unfortunate and sad that the almighty Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State who is today the jewel and pride of the opposition political party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) doesn't know his date of birth." Though this maybe shocking to the outside world but those of us who are his close associates are not shocked a bit knowing his antecedents as a fellow who is capable of using any method whether sinister, unholy, untoward or otherwise to achieve any task he sets his mind to achieve including deceiving the world on his day of birth.

The APC in a statement signed by its State Chairman, Chief (Dr.) Davies Ibiamu Ikanya and circulated by Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze his Media Consultant today said, "We have read several birthday messages from both his family members, political associates etc celebrating his birthday on 13th December while the documents he presented to INEC and some educational Institutions on oath indicates that he was actually born on March 13, 1963 and not December, 13th 1968 as he makes the world to believe. Sadly as if he is not contented with been born on two different days the great Google on the other hand claims that Governor Wike was born on 24th August, 1967. What a feat! An individual claiming three different days as his birthday." Both his age declaration form, sample of his birthday celebration and the Google’s stand are attached for doubting ‘Thomasess’.
Text of the statement reads:
According to the age declaration sworn by his elder brother, Chief Collins Wike and Clergy father and presented to INEC and some educational Institutions, Governor Wike is said to be born on March 13, 1963. This date contradicts the new age of 13th December, 1968 and the Google date of 24th August, 1967.
To some funny PDP Leaders, Wike is not only a reputable leader but the embodiment of the alien democracy being practised by PDP.
In a congratulatory birthday message signed by Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP new National Publicity Secretary, Governor Wike was described as "the jewel and pride of not only the Party and Rivers State but also the nation at large" PDP went further to hail Governor Wike for his political sagacity which had propelled the party to greater heights. It is sad that such character as Gov Wike because he has continued to waste the Rivers State funds to sponsor the activities of PDP he has become the face and hero of democracy. To us in APC, "If such a character is the jewel of PDP, Nigerians need not be told what the party PDP is made up with and what they are capable of doing, the statement signed by Dr Davies Ibiamu Ikanya the Rivers State APC Chairman stated.
According to the APC statement, the alien democracy that Wike's PDP is practicing is democracy of fraud, high-tech looting, high level of impunity and high-tech election rigging tactics as acted during her just concluded elective convention and it will be a disaster for this country if such a party is voted back to power.
It is unfortunate that Rivers State is being governed by such a character and his wife - a High Court Judge is celebrating him on National TV while knowing that 13th December is not his birthday. This is the man positioning himself as the leader of PDP, a party that was founded by some great minds like Alex Ekwueme, Solomon Lar, Abubakar Rimi who are currently weeping profusely in their graves over the current state of the party that they put their lives on line to establish, how is the mighty fallen. This is a man threatening that if he is not given the office of Vice President that he will scatter the party. We feel sad when some of our best brains like OCJ Okocha, SAN, former President of the NBA look upon Governor Wike as the Messiah of Rivers State.
If Wike can be involved in this type of act of not knowing the date of his birthday or rather presenting forged documents as his birthday certificate why should the world believe or accept funny documents he cooked up in order to indict an innocent man like Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi erstwhile Governor of Rivers State and incumbent Minister of Transportation.
To is patriotic Nigerians, instead of celebrating Wike’s fraudulent birthday, Nigerians should be mourning that a man without vision who governs a State without any budgetary provision; sponsoring anti FSARS groups to allow criminals pervades Rivers State, who in the midst of plenty owes a lot of backlog in salaries to civil servants and arrears of pension to pensioners. A man well versed and notorious in embarking on low-value projects spiced up with massive media coverage. A man who has destroyed our education by recalling our students on scholarship overseas, etc, in addition to several other atrocities is today the jewel and leader of a great political party like PDP.
As much as we as a political party wish Governor Wike God's stead but we need to wait till 13th March, 2018 or August 24 2018 to formally send to him our official birthday gifts and card.
Long Live APC!
Long Live Rivers State!!
Long Live Federal Republic of Nigeria
Long Live President Muhammadu Buhari
Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze,
SSA Media and Public Affairs Consultant to the State Chairman, APC Rivers State.

[ Masterweb Reports: Eric O. Ifere reports ] - The most recent Nigeria Court of Appeal decision in Nganjiwa v FRN, delivered on 11th December 2017 has become a lightning rod for public discourse and controversy. While some Nigerians agree with the judgement, I believe the Court of Appeal in applying the principle of separation of powers within our constitutional framework ascribed to the three spheres of government ignored the basic principle that a statute should be read as a harmonious whole, with its separate parts being interpreted within their broader statutory context.
Prior to this Court of Appeal decision which held that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC] does not have the powers to investigate or prosecute serving judicial officers except where they have first been dismissed by the National Judicial Council, perhaps hinging its deduction on S158 of the Nigerian Constitution and paragraphs 21[b] and [d] of the Third Schedule to the Constitution, EFCC could proceed against judges for criminal offences committed while on duty.
While I agree with the decision that complaints demanding ‘disciplinary’ action against a Court Judge in the performance of his legal duty should firstly be referred to the National Judicial Council to establish whether it would be appropriate to remove them from office or apply other appropriate sanctions in circumstances where they have been found to have committed a criminal offence, I am less oriented to the Court of Appeal’s views that Judges can only be prosecuted for ‘selected criminal conducts‘ after the National Judicial Council has first administratively decided on their cases and not otherwise.
Simply put, I disagree with the Court's interpretation as Judges in Nigeria are not above the law just like any other citizen. To say otherwise will mean misinterpreting the constitutional provisions cited above or erroneously ascribing to Nigeria Judges constitutional immunity to criminal prosecution, even as existing provisions are limited to dismissal and/or disciplinary actions against serving judges but not extended to criminal prosecution if properly interpreted.
It is coherent to say that using the words ‘disciplinary control ‘by the framers of the constitution does not suggest a generative interpretation of those provisions to include ‘criminal prosecution’ for defined criminal conduct and therefore we must avoid the temptation of giving the word ‘disciplinary control’ a wider interpretation not envisaged by the Constitution. For if the law maker had intended such protection for judges, he would have explicitly said so in the Constitution or other Act of parliament [ that no Judge should be subjected to criminal prosecution, up until they have gone through disciplinary action of the National Judicial Council as exist in some other jurisdictions.]
The court of appeal view in fact reveals a deeper failure when it enumerated other criminal activities that can warrant criminal prosecution of Judges without resort to Administrative discipline by the National Judicial Council to include theft, fraud, murder or manslaughter, arson, and the likes, while excluding bribery and corruption offences which should be a mere official misconduct…………na true…………. crime under our statutory books na crime biko.
In conclusion, as far as the text and structure of the Constitution are concerned, there is no reason to conclude that the EFCC and indeed any appropriate law enforcement body in Nigeria cannot initiate criminal proceedings against Judges.
based on any material facts which could show that a Judge committed a criminal offence outside the scope of his/her work even before the National Judicial Council takes appropriate disciplinary action against him/her.Supreme Court of Nigeria, if they don’t ………. I shall be knocking on your door ASAP.
