Faceless Islamic Group Threaten Xmas Bombing of Jos

-Masterweb Reports

A faceless Islamic group is posting and dropping fliers, threatening bombing of churches and other targets in Jos, Plateau State before December 26, 2011. It would be recalled that Christmas eve attacks and reprisals killed many in Jos last year. The radical Islamic sect, Boko Haram claimed responsibility for the Jos Christmas eve multiple bomb attacks. Many fliers are in circulation, either dropped on the ground or posted on walls and trees. Thousands have been killed earlier this year in Jos from clashes between Christian and Moslem ethnic groups.

The fliers signed by someone claiming to be Idris Musa and written in poor English listed 21 targets in the planned attacks. Part of the message on the fliers read: "We entire Muslim of Plateau State will never give up until we have our right ... Nothing can stop us from bombing these areas before December 26, 2011." Charles Okeocha, an army spokesman in Jos said authorities took the threats seriously and would do everything possible to arrest the criminals before they struck.

"There is a pamphlet in circulation threatening to attack some targets, including churches, private businesses and government institutions in Jos between now and December 26. As security agents, we are not taking the threat lightly. We have beefed up security to avoid any unpleasant situation." Okeocha told reporters.

Northern Nigeria has been hit by several bombings and attacks blamed on Boko Haram. The Islamic group claimed responsibility for the August suicide bombing of UN headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria's capital city which killed 24. It is not certain whether Boko Haram is behind the Jos Christmas bombing threat.
