NewsReel 11/7/14 - News Analysis On Abia Youth Empowernment Scheme

[ Masterweb Reports: Hon. Chuks Ibegbu reports ] - The Abia Youth Empowerment Programme is a model that should be emulated by other states in Nigeria. In this news analysis, Hon. Chuks Ibegbu, a commentator on national and international issues considers the impact of this scheme.

The greatest challenge facing Nigeria today is Youth Unemployment and Underemployment. It is the factor responsible for the high rate of crime in the country.  Any step taken therefore to reduce this hydra-headed situation should be applauded. The Youth empowerment programme of the Abia Youth Empowerment Foundation has run for some years now and has tremendously added a lot of value to the lives of  thousands of Abia and Igbo Youths.

The initiator of this programme , Engr Chinedu Orji has proved that with a pragmatic mindset anchored on empathy for his fellow citizens a workable empowerment model can be put in place. Hitherto Igbo and Abia Youths were left in the dark with little or no  plans for them. But the Ochendo administration , the Ikuku empowerment strategy and Her Excellency lady Odochi Orji women and Youth empowerment schemes have all aggregated to add value to the lives of Abians.

The good thing about these schemes is that there is a cyclic effect in them. Those who are empowered empower others in turn and by the time you know it thousands of Abians and Igbos in Abia state benefit directly or indirectly.

For the beneficiaries of these empowerment programmes there is no need emphasizing that they must  utilize the opportunity to turn the fortunes of their lives for the better . They must inculcate the habit of saving and investment no matter how small. In no distant time they will build up the necessary capital to launch into medium and even big businesses.

As more Abia and Igbo Youths benefit from these programmes, we wish the initiator of the Abia Youth Empowerment programme, Engr Chinedu Orji better days ahead and more of such elevating schemes in the nearest future.
