My name is Abiodun Lateju, and I am a Nigerian American. It is really amazing to me to read some of the Nigerian view points on Indians. For example Abnkole writes from Doha, Qatar: "To me , Indians are nothing, absolutely nothing". Abnkole believes that Nigerians are better than Indians. If so , it is obvious to me that Abnkole does not have a clue about this issue. Let me educate Abnkole and other Nigerians that have the same ignorant opinion about Indians.

First and foremost, when it comes to IT, India has the top 3 or 4 Universities in the world. They are the best at it. Even in the U.S, they dominate. They are the hardware and Software engineers, Programmers, Analysts. In some of the biggest companies in the world, such as Toyota, Nissan, Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony, Dell, HP, IBM etc..these positions are held Indians. ( Continues below..... )

Also, in the field of Medicine, Indians dominate. They have some of the best specialists such as Brain Surgeons, Heart Surgeons, Endocrinologist etc.. in the field of medicine, which they also dominate in the U.S. and some of these Doctors are world renown.

Furthermore, Indians have some of the best nuclear scientists and engineers in the world. Militarily, India is one of strongest nations in the world. Approximately 2 years ago, there was a competition between the U. S. Air Force and the Indian Air Force, the Indians won against the U.S. in every category during this war games.

India produces its own weapons without help from any country unlike Iran, that gets all its missile Technology from North Korea, India built its Nuclear weapons without help from anyone.

Finally, India is fast becoming an economic power. It’s manufacturing sector has grown tremendously in the last two decades. The reason why India is so successful is that the emphasis in that country is placed on Educating the Indian youth, so that they can compete globally and education is free up to the University level unlike Nigeria where all emphasis is placed on theory. I have a Nigerian friend who received a B.Sc from UNIBEN in Computer Science and she doesn’t even know anything about Microsoft Office Products.

Can somebody tell me how or why they think that Nigerians are better than Indians. As much as I love my country, Nigeria, we still have a long way to go. As of now, India is better than Nigeria but I am confident and optimistic that eventually, we will reach that level too. I am challenging every Nigerian that reads this, that it is time for us to wake up, whether we like it or not, Nigeria is our country. We need to Change from Selfishness to Selflessness. Make a difference in your community. Whether its volunteering Or Organizing in our communities or Churches, let’s make a difference in our communities. We need to start doing for ourselves instead of waiting on the government to do everything. I encourage everyone to participate in the democratic process. Organize a lobbying group, know who your local Govt. officials, senators and congress men are, go to their offices to talk to them about issues concerning you and your communities.
