The Management of Nigerian Airspace Management Agency(NAMA) foiled an attempt by one of its registered contractors from supplying it with second-hand vehicle tyres worth N1.4 million. The contactor, whose identity is still being kept under the wraps pending the outcome of on-going investigation, has however been blacklisted by the Agency.
The contractor hired a vehicle to convey the tyres to NAMA headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos according to reports, unaware he was being monitored. NAMA’s Audit unit, on the directive of the General Manager(Audit), was kept on the alert to ensure that no second hand inferior or fake materials were dumped on the agency because of its critical safety duties. Contacted, the General Manager, NAMA Public Affairs, Supo Atobatele confirmed the incident and said the name of the contractor would not be disclosed until preliminary investigations were concluded. He added that: "The job order given to the contractor was for the supply of brand new tyres and not second-hand or fairly used ones. The contractor has to explain to the agency how it came about supplying us with used tyres."
