*Nigeria: Governor Obi Says He is Committed To Anambra

By Valentine Obienyem

Governor Peter Obi says the welfare of the State Workers and the good of Anambra State remain top priorities of his administration. Governor Obi was speaking in a broadcast on the recent industrial actions in the State.

Governor Obi who noted that there was no compelling reason for the strike actions, recalled that from the inception, his government has continued to demonstrate commitment to the welfare of workers as evident from the resolve to constantly upgrade their conditions of service and for being one of the states in the country to express readiness to obey the minimum wage Act that stipulates N18,000 as the new minimum wage.

He explained that since the creation of the State his administration has done more than all the previous governments put together towards the uplift of the state in all sectors of development including the welfare of workers.

The Government said that in line with policy of ensuring that the State lived within its means, his administration had drastically reduced the cost of governance, including receiving one of the lowest personal enrolments and allowances for himself and members of his cabinet among the states in Nigeria. He stated that what he offered to workers based on the Minimum Wage Act is what will not lead the state into debts nor jeopardize both their pension and gratituty.

Governor Obi noted that in addition to employing over three thousand workers into the State Civil Service, his administration has equally resuscitated the Group personnel Accident Insurance Scheme which was abandoned since 2003 and premium paid accordingly while the first beneficiaries of the scheme will be paid in two weeks’s time .

He regretted that some politicians who lost at the polls and who had in the past led a visionless and missionless governments are bent on destroying the vision and mission for a better state lamenting that when they had the opportunity to serve, they dragged the state into anarchy, state of war and pedestrian politics and are today trying to desperately to destroy the enviable achievements of the present government which have made the state a reference point in the area of good governance and international best practices and a pacesetter for others to emulate and attracted many rewards and awards from international donor agencies and development partners. Is Imo state better than Anambra infrastructure wise? Greater part of imo state is largely lacking in government presence and no sign of living, except owerri which is not upto the size of American qtrs, Omagba phase 1 & 2 in Onitsha. Anambra is ahead of imo state in terms good network of road connecting the three major cities of Anambra and general infrastructure. This enabling environment has continued to attract foriegn and local investors, unlike in imo state which was highly under-developed by the cannibal ohakim and gang

LailaThis would be a positive mission for the governor, with this many will be gaining back their self respect and uplift them from poverty. Hope that all politicians will really seek work for its constituents. It also helps the economy from going down and we can see that non of them will be striving from poverty from being out of jobs. I would like to say thank you to this very positive action of the Governor.
