*Disintegration of Nigeria Cheapest Means To Containing Islamic Extremism In Africa

By Ikechukwu Enyiagu

No one ever solves a mathematical equation without a formula; no one finds the solution to a problem without first finding the root of the problem. Terrorism didn’t just happen; it is the result of decades, and perhaps, centuries of subdued disagreements and misunderstanding. Wisdom demands that prevention often be preferred to a cure. These truths inform this timely advice to the United States of America, Britain, France, and all other affected countries of the world to accept without delay that, in order to contain this virus called terrorism which is speedily spreading all over Africa, Nigeria must be disintegrated without further delay. Like a mustard seed, terrorism only has to have a point of contact-no matter how small. Whilst the Nigerian genocide against Igbos from 1967-1970 have remained no business of the world ruling interests (those who champion human rights) to this date, terrorism in Nigeria shall force everyone to ask this very vital and inevitable question which has until now been mumbled in different quarters: “Does Nigeria has to remain one?’ Of course, the obvious answer to this is a resounding NO! Setting aside the unthinkable amounts of money which the US and other nations have wasted so far in the fight against terrorism, lives threatened, with no one sure where and who it may be next, pose greater worries for the world at large. Nigeria, a country with over one hundred and sixty million (160,000,000) people, have proven itself ungovernable as one federal state. A foolish leader is not one who makes a mistake but one who refuses to accept his mistake and learn from it; the amalgamation of Nigeria by her majesty’s authority was the worst mistake ever made by the British government. Even with the many lives of Igbos wasted, with the backing of Britain, for no justifiable cause, and the corruption which has corrupted everything in Nigeria, until now, the British authorities have not accepted that their “Project Nigeria” was a fatally destructible and failed one. Nevertheless, Islamic terrorism is about to change all that arrogant denial. Until now the pursuit of a Biafran state out of this failed project called Nigeria has not won all the duly needed attentions and interventions from the United Nations, America, and the rest of the world. However, it will be noted here that Biafra is not the only nation in Nigeria that wants to secede; the entire Northern states of Nigeria have obtrusively been agitating for their separate state, even before the Nigeria-Biafra civil war, where Sharia law shall be the constitution of the day; and at the other end stands the Niger Delta movement. While MASSOB represents the Biafran movement, MEND fights for the Niger Delta and Boko Haram, the Muslim North. And while MASSOB resorted to a non-violent approach to assert and obtain the rights of Igbo nationhood, MEND uses violence to claim their rights, while Boko Haram diversifies terrorism in Nigeria. According to Gen. Andrew Owoye Azazi, the Security Adviser to the Federal Government of Nigeria, “Terrorism has come to stay in Nigeria.” This was in confirmation of the British secret service’s report that Al-Qaeda has planned to use Nigeria as their African headquarters to attack the west. And true to it credentials, Boko Haram, the extension of Al-Qaeda in Nigeria, has now sworn that “the country would not have peace until there is 100 per cent implementation of Sharia law in the country as enshrined in the holy Quran.” This therefore leaves no question as to whether Nigeria will metamorphose into a Pakistan, an Afghanistan, or even another African Somalia; the question the west and indeed the rest of the concerned member states should be asking now ought to be: “Should we let Nigeria evolve into a Somalia, or an Afghanistan, or even a Pakistan in Africa?” Considering the effects of fighting terrorism and mostly the damages it has inflicted so far, the obvious answer to this, again, should and must be a resounding NO! Late Boko Haram Leader

Photo Above: Late Boko Haram Leader, Mohammed Yusuf. Police said Yusuf was shot while trying to escape.

Having considered the conditions of Pakistan, Iraq, Afghanistan, South-Sudan, and Somalia, I have come to the only wise and workable conclusion and solution to a terrorism-free Africa: A disintegrated Nigeria. If British intelligence claims Nigeria to be the proposed African headquarters of Al-Qaeda, then it could be since the sings are on the increase. One of the many reason large sums of money are wasted and lives lost in combating this international crime is the precautions and cautions taken by America and its allies to avoid killing innocent citizens, and the sole reason terrorism has lasted this long is because those involved take advantage of civilian-populated zones , both to hide and to attack. In the case of Nigeria and, by extension Africa, knowing the source of the problem would lesson the degree of wastes always envisioned and encountered. The economic instability in all of the western countries today is the effect of fighting terrorism-the effect of refusing to prevent from occurring and, instead, preferring to cure when the whole system has been effectively affected. Mohammed Yusuf's bullet-ridden body

Photo Above: Mohammed Yusuf's bullet-ridden body shown to journalists in a video hours on July 30, 2009 after Nigerian police announced they had captured him alive. Police said Yusuf was shot while trying to escape.

Not everything has immediate cure if and when not initially prevented from occurring. Lastly, I’d like to advice the US and all concerned that, before the decision to send drones or to come in to fight terrorism (which has actually gained legal residence in Nigeria) is made, please help Nigerians to help you. Nigeria has truly shown the final sign of a failed state when it lost the capability to provide security to protect its president; how much vulnerable can an ordinary Nigerian be? But before the west comes in to increase our pains as a means of reducing yours, give us the help we need to reduce yours without having to increase ours; help us to dissolve this lethal mistake of an experiment called the Federal Republic of Nigeria. A stitch in time saves nine.

Comment from: DAGACI, M. ETSUGAIE [Visitor]
DAGACI, M. ETSUGAIEThe struggle for power and all the sentiments and emotions associated with it in Nigeria is fearful and worrisome. Various peoples of the country are daily doing everything possible to outsmart them using either ethnicity or religion to extract political concession from the centre. Sometimes i wonder if Nigeria is a nation or just a geographical expression of a wide spectrum of people forced to live together. Cant we for God sake do something about this ugly situation just like the above writter has rightly suggestted? I mean this pretence of living together by all means and in the process insulting and hurting ourselves. We certainly cant continue this way because we wont get anywhere. Let us look for an amicable ways of living together or otherwise. The otherwise aspect may be a painful decision but it is worth considering. In Nigeria, God has made provision for each region which if well harnessed will make every Nigerian happy and well anywhere he/she may be within the country. Let those who have oil control it, those who have water should drink and those with nothing should for God sake look for something to survive on.Those of us from the desert north would particularly be happy if the writter's dreams come to fruition, as there would be no more cheap/free money from oil to personalised or steal at the detriment of the their people's common welfare. I hereby throw my cast behind the writters proposal for a peaceful disintegration of Nigeria.

I am convinced of the Ike's thoughts about the remote and
immediate solutions to these problems inherited to us to by
the colonial masters.

The solution is straight forward and am sure it will be
more and more appropriate in tackling the problems in which both
Nigeria and Nigerians are now facing.

The amalgamation of North and Southern protectorates were
designed to achieve integration and peace in the country,
but due to the failure on this agenda and the increase
in violence and attacks in the country all due to the
refusal to appreciate our differences. The country should be
disintegrated for the sake of peace and tranquility.

mohammad yazidThe arrogant opinion about Islam posted by ikechukwu here represent the most heinous crime you can commit against any religion. You have naively postulated igbos christians and MENd christians as freedom fighters, while negating Boko haram as islamic terrorists-This is really ridiculous, and it demosntrated yet still how arrogant and selfish you christians are,and how you dance to the tunes of your christians terrorists masters abroad, such as, Bush, Obama, Blair, to mentioned but a few. I want you to check all available authentic dictionaries and find the meaning of terrorism. You will really note that, historically, christians are the worst form of terrorist. Likewise, in Nigeria, terrorism has had its roots and or beginning from christian terrorists in Igboland and then amongst the MEND. We in the North have always welecomed separation with an infidel christian terrorist groups like MEND, OPC, MOSSOB and alike. To put words straight, Terrorism as a whole, is a product of christian hypocracy and that you constituted the worst form of terrorists.

Gabriel AnoruigweNigeria should be divided into six zones like one the commentators suggested. Each zone will control its natural resources and autonomy. Federal govt should not have too much power, rather the zonal governments will. This will drastically reduce the corruption. The politicians will not steal the funds like they are doing now. The power will reside with the zonal, state and local governments.Nigeria should remain one but be divdeded into zones.

Comment from: crisdels Chris Nnadede [Visitor]
crisdels Chris NnadedeWhen we front religion as the core reason for disintegration of Nigeria as I seem to understand from reading all these comments, we miss the real reason behind these calls. Then we find that those responsible for the woes of Nigeria will shade themselves under the umbrella of religious persecution there by engaging the same innocent Christians or Muslims to fight foolishly for them. The real matter is not just religion, it is cultural, political, and economic - and communication deficiencies which just can't get resolved no matter how.
The Nigerian Christians which I happen to be one of them are as bad and corrupt as the Muslim Nigerians. But the fact is, there is no practicable formula to get these cultures to blend harmoniously as the United States Constitution did it for Americans. However, the constitution would not unite them if there were no efforts on the part of American citizens agree to draw a solid line between the church and the state. American constitution made it very clear that the Congress shall make no law
Regarding free practice of individual religion. In other words, there can be Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Judaism, Buddhism or even atheist all protected under the constitution.
As in every democracy, the majority is always more visible and utilize the power of suffrage (election) to advance their whims (if it has to be so). This explains why the Christian majority elects their own people in USA. The American Moslems would do so if they are greater in number.
My point here is that Nigeria has failed as a nation with nothing to reference on. Even our founding fathers were vastly divided and could not find a common ground to pass on to us to recourse. No culture in Nigeria is commonly practiced to warrant consensus by mere agreeing on common myths, folkways and morays, socially, politically or other. Communication which is the melting catalyst for homogeneity failed in Nigeria so there's no other way than to do what other countries that could not co-exists did and peacefully separated without going to war.

Comment from: Dafe J. [Visitor] Email
Dafe J.The truth about Nigeria is that it is a marriage of convenience. To solve this problem, two things must be done:
Corruption is promoted by an overstrong Central Government that pooled all resources in the country and gives crumbs to the states. This makes the position of President the coveted crave of all politicians. This calls for devolution of powers from the centre to the states which is guaranteed only by true federalism that has been denied Nigeria by the Military Governments and perpetrated by upstart politicians who inherited the military laid down structures in the guise of democracy without question, because of pecuniary self aggrandizement. Nigeria must go back to the Independent and Republican Constitutions of 1960 and 1963 respectively, sort out the weaknesses of these constitutions and draw up a new constitution that will make the country a strong federal and secular state in the true sense of federalism via a Sovereign National Conference.
Secularism of Nigeria as a country must be respected and must be acceptable to all, where every person must be free to practice the religion of his/her choice without intimidation, coercion or persecution. That is, all forms of government interference in religious matters must be discarded. Practices such as pilgrim boards, subsidies for pilgrimage makers, national mosque, churches or chapels, national shrines, etc must be stopped. Let Christians, Muslims or Other religious adherents practice their religion without government aids or interference, or attempts to force any religion on others. Religious propagation should be on friendly persuasion. The laws of Nigeria as a country should be purely secular because there are diversities of beliefs, but can draw morality and strength from what all religions support in common, such as love for the neighbour, the fear of God, natural justice, love for the common good and retribution for evil.
Presently, in every State in Nigeria, there are muslims, christians and adherents of other religions. There is nothing like muslim North or christian South. These claims are purely devilish and ungodly. The fact that there are more of muslims or christians in some states does not make those States to be muslim states or christian states. Even before the colonial incursion into Nigeria, the North which was predominantly ruled by Muslim Emirs after the Usman Dan Fodio's Jihad, was not populated 100% by muslims. Just as Islam spread peacefully to allover the country with time and Christianity spread allover peacefully at the expense of paganism of the past, so let it be, without any group trying to impose its beliefs forcefully on others. It is only on this that Nigeria can remain one indivisible entity and not on coercive or forceful co-existence. If this cannot be done peacefully, it is only a matter of time, at pain of untold suffering and bloodshed that the country will disintegrate in such a way that will be worse than the case of Yugoslavia. The so-called leaders of Nigeria today, whether from the North West, North East, North Central or Middle Belt, South East, South West and South South or Niger Delta, should reflect on this. True Muslim leaders, True Christian leaders, True free thinkers and Traditional worshippers should think. The Nigerian National Assembly members in the Senate and in the House of Representatives, the State Governors and State Assemblies members, Federal Ministers and State Commissioners should think. The popularly elected President Goodluck Jonathan who is being denied a peaceful reign and all the opposition leaders should also think deeply on this matter.

Comment from: James [Visitor]
JamesIt is apparent that muslims are still living in the fool's paradise by harbouring wild dreams of "islamic domination of Nigeria and of the whole world!"
Well that is not gonna happen because nowadays, in Nigeria and all over the world, non-muslims have a very low and very bad impression about islam and all that islam stands for. Infact , the word "islam" is completely UNACCEPTABLE to most non-muslims because it leaves a very unpalatable and disgusting taste in people's mouth!
Nobody in the non-muslim world would fold their hands and watch islamists running amock like they did 450 years ago! Gone are the days when Mohammed and his hooligans galloped around on camel backs ,CHOPPING OFF PEOPLE'S HEADS and screaming "accept islam or you die!" to terrified and helpless people all over the place.
Nowadays , if muslims want to fight and to die; to bomb everywhere and die , then there are non-muslims in Nigeria and elsewhere , who are prepared to grant their wish, by killing them !
Ask Osama bin laden and his dead lieutenants!
They could run, but couldn't hide in caves forever.
In present day Nigeria, it is the desire of millions of people in both North and South Nigeria to live in an atmosphere of peace , progress, justice and equality ; but sadly this is not the desire of islamic jihadists.
Nigeria is NOW at war, believe it or not.
It is an act of treason and an act of war for the Northern states to entrench sharia law and for boko haram to insist on 100% forcible conversion of ALL Nigerian non-muslims to Islam!
The infiltration and installation of Islamic jihadists and their retrogressive economic policies inside the Central Bank of Nigeria is an act of economic sabotage and an act of war against the Nigerian nation.
For this reason , the peaceful disintegration of Nigeria is long -overdue.
In order to ensure , peace , justice and security to lives and properties, non-muslims must not be grouped in the same nation with muslims.
That is a recipe from Hell and will continue to be so.
To ensure justice , peaceful co-existence and fulfillment of the dreams and aspirations of the various sections of Nigeria which have been hitherto suppressed and marginalised, Nigeria must be split into completely independent nations .
Among the murderous elements in the Islamic North are minority Christian areas and these must be well -provided for in any future disintegration plans for Nigeria.
The Middle Belt of Nigeria must not , in future, lump together the Christian and Islamic minorities existing there. The two must be in two very different nations, because Christians and muslims cannot continue to live together peacefully because of intolerance by muslims , as confirmed by the riots in Jos , Kaduna and Kafanchan.
Also, the three major tribes , namely the Hausa/ Fulani, Yoruba and Igbo tribes , should go their separate ways and must not be grouped in the same nation with any of the minority tribes in Nigeria.
There should be at least 6 and preferably 8 separate nations carved out of the present British selfish political contraption called Nigeria , as follows:
1. The Hausa/ Fulani deserve their dream nation to be called the Islamic Republic of Songhai or Arewa; where muslims will be free to entrench their islamic doctrines of sharia law, boko haram and islamic banking.
2. same would apply to the Moslem minority tribes in core North , with whatever name they would choose.
3.The Christian minorities in these Northern states must be allowed to determine their own destinies, separately.
4. same for the Christian minorities of the Middle Belt.
5. The Yoruba states of the south west would easily sort themselves out and integrate to form Odua nation.
6.The south east Igbo states of Abia ,Enugu, Imo, Anambra and Ebonyi states, must be allowed to achieve their proposed Biafran nation, which is long overdue.
7.The minority tribes in Edo , Delta and Balyesa have shared languages , cultural heritage and aspirations. The three of them could decide to form one nation ; or they could decide to merge and form a larger one with the emerging nation mentioned in (8)below, to form the South-South nation ,to be named and planned as they deem fit;
8. The minority tribes of the Niger Delta states in Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Rivers , have a lot in common and should merge into one nation or could decide to team up with emerging nation in (7) above, to form a larger South-South nation.
This peaceful arrangement will ease the present tension in Nigeria which could explode with dire consequences for all .

wazoDividing Nigeria is an option, but that if done on the basis of religion is such a miopic consideration. Agreed that boko haram are from the north therefore since they claim to want to convert the Nigerian law in to sharia in place of the constitution(through jihad) they should go ahead, but this through peaceful disintegration. How convinient for the south under this arrangement, rather than sharing a burden of insecurity that this country has found it's way into due to the collective result of past and present administrations, and also rather seeing to create lasting measures that will curb the violence that engulfed a part of the country,No, some southerners want to secede from the rest of the country. It's for sure that south has oil, it has the sea ports etc Is this the motivation that gives the south the impression that it is more strategically placed to endure a self reliance especially based on the current violence and killings that the north and it's very own boko haram to continue killings its kinsmen. I don't seem to understand why despite the fact that 85% of boko haram victims are northern Muslims, and yet our so called fellow citizens from the south feel this is the best time to abandon the Nigeria project and move on is now. I pray that your wishes come true and we disintegrate peacefully or otherwise and let's see how things will generally go for all of us. Ultimately oil is not a guarantee for prosperity and even if it were we also are blessed or cursed, as it were with it. National confrence , referendum, legislation, secession war....etc we are ready when you people are please there is no compultion in unity.
