A 30-year-old Vietnamese woman identified only by her last name, Pan, cut off half of her sleeping husband's penis with a pair of scissors at their home in Tainan, a city in southern Taiwan. She reported herself to police claiming her act was in revenge for beating by her husband after she confronted him about an extra-marital affair. She told police she threw the severed part into the river.
The condition of her jobless 29-year-old husband, a drug user was unclear at the time of this report. According to unconfirmed reports, Pan has no regret for mutilating her husband which she justifies due to his physical abuse of her and unhidden affair with another woman. She claims to have suffered beatings by her husband even though she supported the family since their marriage two years ago from a job at a karaoke shop.
Pan remains in police custody awaiting court arraignment. A police officer told reporters: "She has been taken into custody on charges of assault." She could face up to 12 years in prison if found guilty.
