Governor peter Obi made clear that the State Government did not transfer schools to missionaries but rather returned schools wrongly and forceful taken from the churches which he noted led to the collapse of the system and erosion of values which his administration is trying to reverse. He said this during his visit to Gaius Benton Memorial School, Oko at the weekend.

He explained that the decision did not in anywhere affect the welfare of teachers as they are still employees of the State Government.

The Governor said education was the most important and major tool to build a better and progressive future while his administration had taken so many measures to revitalize and transform the sector.

He commended the contributions of private schools in promoting education in the State and enjoined other privileged individuals to support efforts to elevate the sector to a pride of place.

Governor Obi used the occasion to present a bank draft of N1 million to the school for procurement of twelve sets of computers and accessories.

The Transition Committee Chairman, Orumba North, Mr. emeka Aforka said Governor Obi’s laudable education policies and programmes had brought a new dawn to the sector. He noted that human capital development remained the bedrock for sustainable physical growth and development.

In an address, the proprietoress of the school, Dame Beatrice Ekwueme extolled the numerous achievement of the Governor in various sectors including roads, bridges, rebuilding and equipping of schools, provision of computer sets, electricity generating plants, buses and science equipment to schools among others.

ChrisAll South East States should follow Governor Obi's
example and return Mission School's to their rightful
owners. Misions can be credited for laying the foundation
for the development of human capital in then Eastern Nigeria until the military came and destroyed it leading to the current malaise in education in the country. I take my hat off to the Governor for this progressive act, and I urge all South East Governors to follow this noble action of
Govnor Obi.

MikeI understand that the return of schools back to missionaries is a proper thing to do. But how do u expect the poor masses to fund the education of their children? Most of the schools returned could make up to 90% of the entire school in anambra(i stand to be corrected) and i am equally aware thatthe mission schools fees will certainly be far too high for average Nigerians.
Peter Obi, like Gov. Amaechi should ve built more schools b4 returning schools.
What d gov has done is similar to fuel subsidy removal.
