Gov. Peter Obi has wiped away the tears of 14 widows whose husbands were murdered by suspected Boko Haram group in Mubi, Adamawa State by redeeming his promise to pay them 1 Million Naira each. Obi presented the cheques to them yesterday after church service at St Andrew’s Catholic Church, Adazi-Nnukwu where he counseled against people trying to make political gains out of the situation.

Speaking at the presentation, Obi who was accompanied by his wife, Margaret Obi and member representing Adazi nnukwu at the Federal House, Hon. Uche Ekwunife said that the Adamawa State Government also promised to pay compensation. He called on the people of the State to remember the dead in prayers and assist their families in any way possible to live on. He thanked the people of Adazi-Nnukwu for remaining calm and counseled against revenge of any sort saying that vengeance is Gods.

Earlier, the President General of Adazi-Nnukwu, Mr. Ben Enemouh said that Gov. Obi had remained the best Governor since Anambra State was created in terms of building of infrastructure and show of compassion to the people of the State. Reeling out the list of projects the Governor has done in Adazi-Nnukwu, including roads, buses for their schools, control of erosion, computers and internet for the schools in the town, the massive work at St Joseph hospital Adazi, he said that his present efforts and love for those that were killed at Adamawa were humbling and touching. He said that what was uplifting was that he rendered all the assistances without shouting it from the rooftops unlike others whose only concern was only to gain political advantages over the situation. On her left are Gov. Obi and Hon. Uche Ekwunife.

In his own remarks, Rev. Fr. Dr. Jonas Benson Okoye said that Obi was a special gift to the State from God. In his words: “His diplomacy is wonderful. I interacted with him throughout the period of agony for my town and other towns in the State and I can tell you that we have a Governor who is humane and godly. He does not want it to be mentioned but I wish to go contrary to his wishes with apologies to him to tell the people of Adazi-Nnukwu and the world that he paid all the expenses for the dead, both bringing them back and burying them. He has today given them money and had already requested us to bring the names of the children of the dead for their scholarship to start running immediately.”

Speaking at the event, Dr. Chris Ngige thanked the Governor for his show of compassion, saying that politics or no politics, whoever is doing good should be commended. He said Obi was doing what he was elected to do and that in Obi’s shoes he, Ngige, would do the same.

In his vote of thanks, Prof. Ken Nworgu, the Dean, Faculty of Law of Nnamdi Azikiwe University said that Obi has continued to bring glory to Anambra State. His words: “Before him, Anambra was a laughing stock, today he has elevated the State to a frontline State in all ramifications. He has re-written constitutional law in this country, with his being the first Governor to remove a sitting Governor, to come back from impeachment and to successfully go for tenure interpretation. He said if the country had about 3 or 4 other Governors of the same moral credibility as Obi that Nigeria would have been transformed. He thanked him for all the things he has been doing in Anambra State of which his town, Adazi- Nnukwu is a beneficiary.

In her reactions one of the widows, Mrs Eugenia Okpala said he was short of words for the Governor’s gestures. She said she had heard so much about how good and compassionate the Governor was to those who needed it and how hostile he was to those who wanted to steal from the State and that she witnessed it herself today.

JamesThank you so much your excellency. God is using you to set an example to the worst state in the world, both politically mentally and other-wise. To remember the needs, the poor, the sick, and those less-privilege is not in culture of Anabra state Gang Stars and their god- fatherism.Wish those coming after your tenor will learn a leason from where you will stop. May the Almighty God continue to shower you and your team with wisdom greater than that of Solomon in Jesus Name. Udo diri umu Anambra na nni igbo nine.

Judith TiriI mean no offence but I cannot hide how deeply pained I am by the cheap use of words in this reportage. I have read brilliant reports on this thread, but this one really sucks because am a woman and if my husband dies today and you give me a million naira to wipe my tears I will consider that very insulting. How can you write that the governor has wiped the tears of the widows of the 'mubi attacks' just because he gave them a million naira each? Come on, there are better ways of capturing that headline, and better angles to write that story form, I mean what is one million naira compared to what those women lost and the trauma they have to deal with? From my narrowed judgement I think the writer of this report has never experienced terrorism in her/his life, because if they did it would be reflected in this report.I am only responding to this story because this is the site many people consult to get a sense of what is happening in Nigeria, and am sure this is not the standard of journalism you would want them to remember you for. Whoever is in charge of this site should make sure they vet these write ups before they are published. Thank you.

EjeThe killing of the Igbos in Northern Nigeria should be taken more seriously than wiping the widows tears. How long are you going to wipe their tears hence Boko Haram will continue their mission which is to put fear in the mind of the Easterners inorder to reclaim the power. The Igbos and the Niger Delta should emergy together to stop the plan of the Northerners before it is late for them. Last week, Babangida said that their were certain issues that has been settled and nobody should talk about it. What issue was he talking about? Somebody should tell Babangida that we are in the 21st century, we are nolonger in the darkages. If they want one Nigeria, he should forget about that nonsense he was talking about. The middle East is on fire today because of thesame settled issue Babagida was talking about. If you are making it difficult for the Easterners to rule Nigeria, The Easterners will make it more difficult for you to rule them until we part away.
