*1 Million Dollars for Onitsha Urban Storm water Master Plan
Mrs. Idah Pswarayi Riddihough announced the 1 Million Dollars grant for Onitsha city to develop its own Urban Storm water Master plan from Climate Change funds. She said this at a meeting between the World Bank and Governor Peter Obi in Abuja on Monday, March 5. She said it was in recognition of Obi’s concern for the environment.
The primary purpose of the Storm Water Master Plan, according to the State Commissioner for Environment who confirmed the development, is to establish standard principles and practices for the analysis, design and construction of drainage systems in the city for the benefit and safety of the community. He said the measure was part of the long term efforts by the Government of Gov. Peter Obi to prevent flooding in the city. ( Continues below….. )

Since Onitsha was named by the UN Habitst as one of the fastest growing five intermediary cites in the world, and exhibited in China, it has been drawing international attention.
Commenting on the development, Obi said that the project would form part of cocktail of projects to be aggressively implemented in Onitsha in the bid to completely restore its lost glory.
