*Nigeria: NCAA Warns Pilots On Weather

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, has advised pilots flying in the nation’s airspace both local and International to exercise restraint when adverse weather is observed or forecast.
The Director-General, NCAA, Dr. Harold Demuren in an advisory letter sent to all airlines said pilots should be patient enough to wait and allow the weather to subdue or pass over the airfield before commencing flight. ( Continues below..... )

He noted that the country is in the mid-stream of rainy season which is usually characterized by severe thunderstorm and line squall and its attendant turbulence, micro busts, lightning and low-level wind shear.
Dr. Demuren further explained that such weather conditions could be deadly to aircraft on approach or departure from an airport and have been responsible for a number of fatal accidents in the world and in our country, Nigeria. ( Continues below….. )

According to him, it is mandatory for Pilots to obtain weather briefing from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) including departure, en-route and destination weather information prior to flight operations. ( Continues below….. )

Correspondent, Nosa Aituamen reports that any pilot that fails to ensure strict compliance with the laid down regulations is to be sanctioned by the regulatory agency.
