GAAICOM, Igbo Presidency And Boko Haram

*GAAICOM, Igbo Presidency And Boko Haram

By Obinna Akukwe

The 2 day Pre – Convention Meeting of the General Assembly of all Igbo Christians Organizations and Ministries (GAAICOM) holding at the Ohaneze Ndigbo National Secretariat on the 12th and 13th of July 2012 is a welcome event in the face of the conspiracy by certain elements in Nigeria to suffocate the economic, political and security well being of Ndigbo.

In the economic scene, consistently since the advent of Nigeria brand of democracy in 1999, the South East Geopolitical Zone has attracted the least of federal allocation of all the six zones of Nigeria. Enugu – Onitsha Expressway, and Enugu – Port Harcourt Expressway is in a sorry state of disrepair. The proposed Sea Port at Onitsha and the 2nd Niger Bridge is still a pipe dream constantly used as electioneering tool while only the South East is yet to have a functional international airport. Igbos have been victims of religion and ethnic cleansing in the North since 1942. The Boko Haram bandits have made it a pleasure attacking Igbo interests, businesses and people at will. The numbers of Igbos killed far outnumber that of all tribes in Nigerian. The agencies of state have not given enough protection to our people whose lives and income is being consistently demolished by the Boko Haram terrorists.

It is obvious from the above that the Igbos are economically, politically and religiously endangered and part of the disadvantaged situation is due to the activities of saboteurs who relish in merchandising Igbo interests to outsiders.

The six geopolitical zones have tasted the presidency of Nigeria. The only region that is yet to preside over the Nigerian state is the South East. The attempt by Aguiyi Ironsi in 1966 to unify Nigeria was unfortunately cut short after only six months and yet the North, West and South - South zones are all preparing for another shot in 2015. What is the position of Ndigbo and what strategies have been put in place to ensure the presidency gets to Ndigbo. ( Continues below..... )

Nigeria has abundance of patriotic leaders cutting across all tribes and religions. The Nigerian people can be reasonable in electoral decisions especially when superior arguments suffice. Therefore, if the Igbos present their case for the presidency properly and strategically, and reach out to the rest of the country, I do not see why other ethnic and religious nationalities will not co-operate. Therefore, the divine move by the GAAICOM under the leadership of Apostle Chidi PCJ Macjossy, Bishop Emmanuel Chukwuma, Rev.Fr Alphonsus Oko and Archbishop A.A Nwodoka, among others, to seek the counsel of God on the way forward is a step in the right direction, which, happily, all denominations in Igbo land are identifying with.

I wish the delegates godly deliberations to reposition Ndigbo where they rightly belong in the scheme of affairs of Nigeria.

okele geraldYes, God blessed Ndigbo. Now is the time for Ndigbo to come with a united mind and spirit to occupy the position meant for us. Is time for the right decision making, is time we say no to oppression.

Henry AgboThat is a good move. With God all things are possible but we igbos should learn to be one in any collective descinssion reached over issues like this. Our POLITICAL CLASS SHOULD AS MATTER OF DISGRACE, AVOID "DIVID AND RULE SINDROME" which have left us the place we are today in Nigeria.
Igbo president is a course that must be achieved but only if we have one mind and work towards it.

AmadiWill Igbo agitators of Presidency or liberation taught it wise that there are over a million youths who sacrificed their life at the various war front during 1967 to 1970 who has not been buried or their Epitaph established like every other country.Does this clandestine hopeless set of people taught it wise that without befitting Burial of the War heroes nothing united shall be archived among the Igbo.Israel has their Holocaust Epitaph. America has, Germans ...every country. Catholic Church has theirs... even 14 martyrs of Uganda, November 1 and 2 for all souls that died for catholic church.Let No Igbo Man comtemplate Unity untill the War heroes received their befitting burial and their monumental epitaph established for their remembrance.

Pst..Luke UchenteMy dear, you see,you started with a good idea of Igbo presidency. But you've beginning to spoil your good agenda with wrong boundary lines.Already you've erroneously calved Port Harcourt and Ikwerre, into your acclaimed Ibgo Land.I think that alone is a conspiracy. And you know the price for that can be a very costly one....Please take note of that and correct it now before its too late...Thanks.

Haruna UsmanIt is evident that the Igbos are still dreaming to succeed the southeast. Well time shall tell, we shall see whether our leader have the eye to see through these plots.
