Masterweb Reports - Friday, July 20, 2012: The Power Holding Company of Nigeria nationwide is under lock and key over Nigerian Army’s action of sealing their offices in Abuja, sources said on Friday.
The action was taken because of the PHCN anticipated workers' strike action, to protest the Federal Government's plan to privatise the PHCN.
In a telephone conversation with one of the junior staff of PHCN (name withheld), source told Master Web reporter that the negotiations between the union and the government has dragged on for so long due to the inability to agree on basic issues in line with the condition of service of employment. Stating that, one of the basic issues is that the PHCN want the federal government to pay them their 50% increment on workers salary before the commencement of PHCN privatisation by the federal government. It was equally observed that during this period, the PHCN still left power on and stable.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) intervened by appealing to the federal government to withdraw soldiers from facilities of the PHCN, and resume meaningful dialogue with the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) towards resolving the stalemate between them. ( Continues below..... )

All efforts made by Masterweb Reporters to reach with any of the executive staff of PHCN proved abortive, as the whole offices of PHCN were under lock and key, and their environment deserted. *Latest Report - PHCN Staff have now resumed work.

it is a fact that sometimes, the actitude of PHCN workers is worisome but, the fed govt of Nigeria still need to respect their right under the law that govern us. The issue of inviting Nigerian army to seal up PHCN office is babaric and unlawful. Rathe, government should embark on meaniful agreement with the workers, give them what they want. Also, the phcn should improve on their service to enable them have nigerians backing in time issues like this. God Bless Nigeria. 
Purge corrupt PHCN officials, pay them their dues b4 privatization. Oh LORD save this country from corrupt and evil individuals in JESUS name. Amen

To me,phcn did not deserve to enjoy anything in this country 
To me Phcn workers should be sacked and replace with God,s fearing parteriotic Nigerians 
PHCN staff should be purged out and replace with humans. 
Govt should urgengly finalize the issue of prepaid metres to save nigerians from daylight robbers.
